Mission
The mission of National Wheaten Rescue, Inc. (NWR) is to enable services for the evaluation, transport, and care of Wheaten Terriers in need of the new foster and “forever” homes we proactively locate and offer.
Statement of Purpose
We support rescue efforts for Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers. We locate, house, evaluate and rehome abused, abandoned, neglected or unfit Wheaten Terriers in need of new “forever” homes. Additionally, we provide re-home assistance for Wheaten families who are experiencing life-changing events. We support these efforts and use our funds for charitable, educational, or outreach initiatives to advance this cause.
NWR collaborates with Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America and other reputable organizations that support rescue missions to continually build upon and maintain a network of people, resources and information to aid Wheatens in need of being rescued, rehabilitated and / or rehomed. 100% of the services offered by NWR is provided by volunteers; people in all 48 states (every contiguous state in the US) who work together help provide foster care, transportation and support.
Services provided by National Wheaten Rescue:
- Rescues purebred Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers from shelters
- Accepts Wheatens from owners who are no longer able to care for them for placement in new adoptive homes
- Through foster volunteers, provides temporary housing and care for relinquished dogs
- Through volunteer drivers, provides transportation for Wheatens from their former homes to their new homes
- Provides ongoing non-financial support and resources to help Wheatens placed through NWR’s rescue program
- Counsels Wheaten owners and provides them with resource referrals to help them address their dogs’ behavioral challenges
